Global Retailer (Function Leadership Team)
Team Dysfunction – Silo mentality, low trust in leadership team, high levels of conflict and blame. Generally destructive behaviours.
We interviewed each leadership team member and synthesised the issues to a lack of strategy, poor leadership and fractured relationships. We initiated a team alignment process and, after a series of facilitated conversations stalled, we identified a lack of personal awareness and insight as the primary cause. The team completed a Heartstyles Indicator and revealed both personal and team development areas. This feedback was supported by continued alignment workshops and a cascade of Heartstyles through the top two levels of management. The work is ongoing, and early signs have demonstrated a significant shift in behaviour across the leadership levels.
A willingness for all senior managers to align with and support one another, greater levels of collaboration and a common language that challenges each individual to choose more effective behaviours and solutions in their daily interactions. We expect to see a healthy evolution of the functional culture.

Actual vs Desired Culture Clash – The executive team identified that across the business, the desired values and actual culture were far apart. They were particularly concerned about a handful of top talent leaving the business.
We suggested that all staff members were included in the journey. We facilitated workshops to explore the desired culture with clearly defined behavioural indicators. These were mapped against the Behaviours measured by the Heartstyles Indicator. Each employee then embarked on a personal development journey to shift their behaviour towards closer alignment with the desired culture. The Executive Team invested in ongoing behavioural shift, focusing on team development and team dynamics.
There is a common language with which to discuss, celebrate, manage and measure culture shift. The executive team and its MD invest deliberately in their ability to lead change.
Agriculture (Leading Poultry Producer)
Acceleration towards high performance – A new executive team of industry superstars was assembled, and needed to align and integrate to ensure an accelerated path towards high performance. The new MD is a firm believer in the critical value of culture and leadership development, and requested an intense engagement to meet the high commercial demands and expectations of the shareholders.
The executive team embarked on a journey of regular team interventions which deepened its self-awareness, created a foundation of high trust, and navigated itself through the critical stages of team development. The team’s commitment to courageous personal development is consistently identified as an essential ingredient to their overall success. To ensure consistent leadership practices, the senior and middle layers of management have also been aligned to the journey.
The team continues to successfully navigate its way towards high performance, and has realised the benefit of a common language and deliberate development interventions. Its decision to cascade this work to the next level of leadership will significantly evolve the culture of the organisation towards greater effectiveness.
